Can You Remediate Mold in Sarasota Homes?

SERVPRO has a Solution for Mold Issues in Sarasota

With the right conditions, mold begins to expand and grow in less than a day. Once discovered, cleaning and removal should start as quickly as possible. The longer a mold infestation goes untreated, the more damage it causes a home. If left too long, there is the eventual possibility that it can affect the health of the homeowner and other residents.

Not all mold means there is damage to a Sarasota home. The spores that make up a colony are usually inactive and are in every home. Unless they have enough moisture, food, and the right temperature, they are incapable of growth. SERVPRO knows that once a colony begins to expand, removal of current growth and stopping new growth at its source are the only way to stop it.

As a restoration company, we perform tasks that most general contractors do not have the training to accomplish. It is necessary to isolate the colony, disinfect the affected areas, scrub the air, remove the damaged property, eliminate the source of moisture, and vacuum all loose mold using special HEPA filters designed to trap even a single spore.

Despite the expertise we bring to the table, the best way to stop mold is to prevent it. We have adapted suggestions from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and recommend them to our customers after we have completed work in their homes.

Do not install carpet in bathrooms and laundry rooms. These areas are constant sources of water and humidity and laying carpet in them is like laying out food for a pest. If you have rugs in the bathroom, change them out regularly, and clean and dry them.

Always clean bathrooms with anti-fungal and other mold-killing chemical products. The most common anti-fungal agent is bleach. It should be the primary chemical in any cleaner.

Whenever you repaint a bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room, be sure to use a paint with a mold-inhibiting chemical added. It does not stop growth completely, but the paint removes the drywall and wood it covers as a food source.

Finally, check your bathroom ventilation regularly. A proper working fan helps to keep the humidity level at a healthy level and prevent dormant spores from expanding into a potential threat.
