Restoring Sarasota Fire Damage
Fire Damage Restoration Needs After a Storm
Since a hurricane was not enough, residents of Sarasota are dealing with other disasters on top of the rain and flooding. Some homes had the gas lines interrupted which resulted in sparks and fires. The incredible amount of storm damage to our homes has also meant the clean-up process is prolonged compared to past storms. Residents are working together to haul away debris while others are attempting to burn what they can first before removing the rest. Both situations have caused further clean-up.
People forget that sparks and embers can remain lit and travel hundreds of yards before landing on a roof and costing thousands in fire damage to a Sarasota home. Despite the debris, damage, and everything else, SERVPRO is prepared to help our neighbors with every disaster that might deal its way into our town and county.
After flooding and fire, much of our restoration work deals with structural, rather than personal property. What we concentrate on in this situation is the foundation and support structures like wall framing, load-bearing walls, and roof support.
After two disasters, a concrete pad shows some surface damage. It is common, and our technicians are very skilled at surface patching. We wash and clean the pad thoroughly and then apply a layer of concrete over the damaged areas, working the new mix into every crack so that it dries smoothly and leaves little evidence of the previous damage.
Fire usually destroys drywall, but it often leaves the framing and larger support structures intact. Our task at this point is to clean the wood of any residues and perhaps use a deodorizing agent to remove any lingering smells that penetrated the surface.
While some minor scorching is fine and does not present a threat to the home, if flames penetrated the wood, we recommend complete replacement of the affected pieces. We train our SERVPRO technicians to identify the threat and to remove and replace supports. The only time we need to call in a general contractor is when the entire roof shows evidence of compromise.
No matter what the disaster, SERVPRO of South Sarasota is here for the community. If you need assistance after a fire, flood, or any other type of damage, we are ready to help. Call us today at (941) 552-6319.
